A
Little Bundle of Joy is soon to Arrive and you wonder if you are ready.
Questions You should think
about.
Will you bottle feed or
breast feed?
Most women today will breast
feed their babies. It is the best for the baby if you are able to and far
less expensive than formula. It allows a strong bond between mother and
child.
Some women prefer to bottle
feed so that the father and family can share in the care of the baby which
also allows for some much needed time for Mom to have for herself.
Then there is always the handy
little bit of both worlds. If you can get your baby to use the bottle with
mother's milk for at least one bottle per day then family can be apart
of the baby's care and Big Bonus, you will be able to get out for an occasional
romantic dinner with Hubby while GRANDMA baby-sits. ( I personally like
this decision )
Should
you use a soother or not?
Besides having the obvious
calming effect for baby and you, it is much easier to wean the child
from the sucking habit than the thumb. When it is time for the older baby
to kick the habit, cutting a hole cut in the soother will render it powerless
and the child will throw it away . The key here is not to give in to their
protests. Besides you certainly can not get rid of the thumb and thumb
sucking that goes on for years can cause dental bite problems down the road.
I personally used the soother for both my kids and found this the easiest
way break the habit. ( CAUTION make the hole no larger than the size of
a pin head as some children suck so hard as to have it come apart)
To
let the baby cry or not.
It is always hard to hear
a baby cry. When the infant cries there is always a reason and should
be attended to. However it doesn't take long for the baby to realize that
by the mere whimper it can get Mom's attention immediately. That is not
necessarily a bad thing as children learn self confidence mostly by the
rewards and attention it receives though out life. There will come a time
when you will be able to tell the difference between an older baby's
cry that needs to be attended to and one that has become a habit to get
attention. Rely on your instincts and you will know when not to react to
these demands. (The first time is the hardest but you will soon see after
only a few times the baby will settle haft only a few moments of fussing)
They need their rest and so do you so to have that happy baby it
pays to be a little deaf sometimes.
Tickle the Baby to go to go back to Grandma's House
I hope to add more of my infant
wisdom to this page but all of what you read here is strictly my opinion
and should you require advice regarding your baby's habits check with your
pediatrician.
