![]() Definitions of TermsSEXISM- A form of institutional discrimination; the economic exploitation and social domination of members of one sex by the other, specifically of women by men. (From Webster's New World Dictionary) SEXUAL HARASSMENT- A form of sexual discrimination...unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. (According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) CLASSISM- A system of beliefs or attitudes which delegates people of certain class backgrounds to limited options or roles because of their class status. STEREOTYPING- Attributing specific characteristics to a partivular individual because of their membership in a group, regardless of the person's own merit or circumstances. (ie "They're ALL like that) RACISM- A system of beliefs or attitudes which delegates "people of color" to limited options or roles because of their race, and offers easier access to privilege for "whites" who are considered the "norm". |
