Just One Reason to Live
written by members of the PPD listserv

Seeing the light from a full moon fall on your sleeping child's face and realizing that you made him and he's absolutely perfect.

Watching your older daughter trying to do antics in front of your younger one, and seeing the younger one's face light up, and knowing that you taught them both about love.

For me, the reason to live is knowing that I have felt this bad before, and I'm still here now.

Reading the three bears to my son and hearing him say "oh my" when goldilocks wakes up with the 3 bears in her face.

Hearing your child laugh with delight at something you did to entertain them.

A cup of hot tea and 20 minutes of silence.

Receiving "big, tight hugs" from my son, and tiny little cuddles and kisses from my daughter, and hearing "I love you" from my son and of course, my husband.

For those times when your child is sick or hurt and only mommy's hug and kiss and words, "it's okay", will make the pain go away.

The absolute delight in my youngest daughter's face when I got out of bed and said Hello to her.

The feel of my youngest's body snuggled up against me at 5:00 in the morning.

The Book of Compliments my 10 year old daughter made and gave to me for my birthday. I realized just how aware of my situation she was.

The back scratch my son gives, just because.

The fact that my husband spent money we didn't have to buy roses for me on our anniversary.

Just the fact that my husband and I are talking again.

A few days ago I got *very* upset at my husband about him not realizing how stressed I was over us moving and I went in my bedroom and slammed the door. My son came in and saw me crying and just held me and begged "Be Happy Mommy, Be Happy". Then he pretended to cry with me. That's unconditional love.

I also love his *Hurt Hugs* where he hugs me till it hurts.

Seeing my baby's sweet face first thing when I wake up in the morning, and having my big girl tell me she wants a hug, and then patting my back to make me feel better when she says my "eyes are broke" because I've been crying.

Here's what my son (2 1/2yrs.) sang to us first thing in the morning (I guess he learned it at pre-school)
I'm a little acorn round
Sitting on the cold, cold ground
Everbody steps on me
That is why I'm cracked you see
I'm a nut, I'm a nut, I'm a nut! (jumping up and down on the bed)

I'm going to try to think about that image next time I'm feeling stepped on and cracked..

The smell of fresh cut grass in the summer

The sound of the waves breaking on the shore at the ocean

The look my youngest daughter gives me right after I say no, and right before she does it anyway

The way my oldest daughter says "I love you too Mommy"

The look on the girls faces, as they come down the stairs on Christmas morning, to see the magic of Santa (we put them to bed with the living room looking normal, and they wake up to a tree, decorated, and Santa's presents. Lots of work, but well worth it)

A long motorcycle ride, followed by a good sunset, and an ice cold beer

A really good, tickles your toes, fairly long kiss from my husband

A double bull, or when you sink the 8 ball

Waking up to the birds singing outside your open window, and a fresh spring breeze coming through it

The smell of fresh fallen snow, and a moonlit walk in it

A day on the bay, and a cooler full of fish (of which I caught the biggest *LOL*)

Curiosity to see what the babies will look like when they're a little older and get more personality. Also to see them laugh (which they haven't yet - only smiles so far).

Watching my daughter turn into an "inchworm" after she's nursed (seeing her bunch up and then stretch her arms and legs, making hilarious faces all the while, with milk dribbling out the side of her mouth)
