My Father Served For Our Country

I guess you could say I came from a very large family. There are six of us children. My father came from a family of 13 children. And my grandfather had 8 sisters and brothers.

My father was in the army and served in the Korean Conflict where he was injured. Following his injury he had problems walking sometimes. Although he was not killed in action, I feel his wartime service greatly changed him. In fact, I know it did. I feel he deserves to be recognized for the good things he did in his life. Therefore, I am awarding him these two medals posthumously.

For Children Of Military Parents

We had many benefits growing up as children that could only come from the Army. We lived all over the world during our childhood. We saw many different things we would not have had an opportunity to see if that were not the case.

My middle brother was born in Verdun, France. I got to to take marine biology instead of regular biology because we lived close to the ocean and could get specimens from the sea. I got to take Italian History instead of World History because we lived in Italy. During that class we toured Italy and actually visited some of the places we studied in class. I hope these positives of being a military child help some of the children who are living overseas.

There were some major drawbacks though. We were unable to stay in one place long enough to build a network of support or learn how to make friends. I remember attending two different middle schools and five different high schools. I remember my father going to the field on manouvers and being fearful that something would happen. I remember the separations from my father when he would leave and go overseas before we could go. But, I remember thinking I would not have it any other way because I was proud he was helping our country.

For all that we, the children of a Staff Sargeant in the Army endured on behalf of our country, I am awarding my siblings and me the following two medals.
