Frances and Tony Travaglini started it all!

Travaglini's has been a Salem County Family Tradition for over 50 years. It all started with a dream. Tony's dream. Anthony Travaglini was a successful and well-respected business man. In 1932, he owned and operated the Community Store in Carneys Point, as well as running the concessions for the Dye Works lunchroom and cafeterias at the DuPont plant. But his dream of owning a restaurant finally came true when in the early 1950s he sold his other businesses and opened up the first Travaglini's on Hook Road in Pennsville.

While Tony cooked, his wife Frances prepared her special cheese Gnocchi - this same recipe is still used today! Unfortunately, Tony passed away on January 26, 1970 and left Frances to carry on the tradition. Frances could not let Tony's dream die. At age 63, she stayed on to run the restaurant even after it was sold. Several years later when the restaurant was moved to the current Broadway location in Deepwater, Frances came too.

In 1986, Jeff and Pam Hogan became the proud new owners of Travaglini's - Frances was still there to guide them. She worked side by side in the kitchen with Jeff, teaching him the "Travaglini way", Tony's way. Even in her seventies and eighties you could find Frances stirring the sauce or making the Gnocchi - she just loved being in the Travaglini kitchen! In 1990, the main dining room was named in her honor. Sadly, soon after, Frances passed away.

The memory of Frances and Tony are still a part of Travaglini's today. Jeff, Pam, Chef Mike Bomba, and the girls at Travaglini's keep the tradition alive. Great food, great salad, great Prioli's bread, great service, and great friends! Tony's dream still lives on!
