Looking up and using URL addresses

Once you know a URL address, you have two ways to enter it into Netscape

  1. Use the OPEN Button in the row of buttons above. This pops up a window called Open Location. Copy the URL in, being careful to copy it exactly as you were given it and click on Open.
  2. If you look just between the two sets of buttons on the top of the page, you will see a white area called Location. This always shows the URL of the page you are on. You can delete what's there, type the URL you want to go to in the box and then press enter.
Finding reliable web addresses/URL's/web sites
  1. Printed library guides and library web pages of good web sites for a subject.
  2. Published books of the best web sites in a subject eg recreation
  3. Internet magazines, especially ones that provide quality reviews of web sites
  4. Established reliable web sites that list or organise other website addresses
    eg AraNui for NZ addresses
eg.The library's Subject Guide to Information
(under Information Resources for Research/Study on the library homepage)
