Using Netscape
Other useful features of Netscape
Make sure you are familiar with all these features as they will save you stress when you are searching.
- The Netscape icon on the right hand side
Always check the large "N" icon in the upper right corner of the screen. If Netscape is searching this icon will be pulsing. If it is not moving, Netscape has either finished retrieving the document or is stuck.
- Status line. This is located at the bottom of the screen. It gives a progress report as the document is loading and says Document Done when the page is fully loaded. A helpful hint...it will also display the address (URL) of a link if you point the cursor over the link. This means you can look at each link's address before you decide to click on it.
- Document length The document is usually much longer that what is visible on the screen. Use the Page Down key or the Down Arrow at the bottom right hand corner of the page to scroll down the page.
- Location The location box tells you exactly where the page you are looking at originates from - it changes each time you click on a link. You can understand a lot about the webpage from it's address
- Hypertext links. Underlined words, or coloured words are usually hypertext links to
other documents. Clicking on a link will take you to somewhere in the same Web page, or to another Web page. A picture can also be a link. If you are unsure if something is a link, move the cursor across it. If the arrow turns into a hand, it is a link. Once you have visited a link, the words change colour for you (for approximately the next month) so you can see where you have been.
