Chelley Kitzmiller is new author for me and I can honestly say that I will definitely watch for more of her novels. The historical side of "Embrace the Wind" was sensational. Never before have I found myself so interested in the historical aspect of a story. That was enough to keep me turning the pages. Add to that a beautiful romance between two people that society believes should not be together and you will find your heart swelling with emotion.
Ginny Sinclair and her father Sam have just moved to Tucson, Arizona and purchased a small newspaper office. They are both determined to make theirs the best newspaper around with accuracy and all around honestly in every article. Sam's drinking problem has gotten them into trouble in the past and Ginny can only hope her father will keep his promise to remain sober and give them a stable home life.
Bonner Kincade is a half-breed working as an interpreter for the army. He meets Ginny after a wagon train arrives into town showing signs of being attacked by Indians. Ginny and Bonner are both immediately attracted to the other.
In Ginny's past is a fiancé who died in the war. She is not completely innocent to the ways of love making between a man and woman as she and her fiancé shared a night of passion before he left for the war. This only heightens the desire she feels for Bonner. Bonner does his best to keep his hands off of Ginny, but temptations are there none-the-less.
The history is one you will just have to read for yourself. I felt compassion for the Apaches as they were being pushed off of their land and put into reservations by the white man. Many of the accusations made toward them were false and only increased the hatred between that of the white man and the Apache.
Pick up this novel and you are sure to enjoy the mixture of romance, suspense,
and historical background.
