I picked up "The Reluctant Bridegroom" from my local library in hopes that I'd have time to read on my vacation. Fortunately, I did find some time and found that Gilbert Morris can write quite a story.

Rebekah Jackson has an unsupportive family and while visiting a friend, gets herself involved with a different sort of man. Knowing she may never have the chance again, Rebekah runs off with Tyler Marlowe. After a very difficult marriage, Rebekah finds herself alone.

What can only be described as the will of God, Rebekah becomes very good friends with a young woman names Mary. Mary has seen and lived the ugly side of life, but has turned to a life with Christ. Mary shows Rebekah her church and with her guidance, Rebekah is saved.

The idea of joining a wagon train of women going to Oregon to find a husband is discussed between the two women, but Rebekah is not thrilled with the idea.

Before long, Mary will need Rebekah in a very important way. Knowing it is her only chance to escape and possibly have a better life, Rebekah asks to join the wagon train. She hopes to find a man that will accept her and the troubles she's had.

The leader of this wagon train to Oregon is Sky Winslow. He knows Oregan like the back of his hand, but the trip is a very difficult one for everyone. Among the women, Sky hopes to find a housekeeper to help him with the care of his son Joe.

Sky has been dealt some hardships and his first marriage was not a good one. Thus, he is not looking for a wife during this trip, but, he can't help but notice Rebekah wonder if they can help each other. He has good intentions, but they go through some rocky road before they are able to finally find love.

This is a terrific tale that will share the characters faith in God with its readers. The struggle of the characters to find the way to accept God into their hearts is a strong battle to the finish. I enjoyed this story immensely and shall add Gilbert Morris to my list of authors to be on the look out for.
