I thought I would warn you before you read the book: If you like good mode of expression and nice countryside description you will not like this book. But if you have read "Divine Evil" by N. Roberts and you found it fiendishly good you can also read "Naked in Death" and you will love it too.
Lt. Eve Dallas has worked for 10 years for the New York police department. It is the year 2058 and you can read about a "real" future. Prostitution is legal, guns are banned and you have to pay a lot for real food. But you still can find crime here. A ruthless killer has murdered a woman who sells her body for sex with a gunshot. The killer has reported his own crime by himself. He sent the police a video of the murder.
Eve has to solve this case and all the information is top secret because the dead person is Sharon DeBlass, the granddauther of senator DeBlass.
Eve's partner, Feeney, controlls Sharons address file and he discovers the name Roarke there. Roarke is one of the most richest men in the world and there isn't much about him to know. On the day of the funeral, Sharon Eve and Roarke meet for the first time. Both are fascinated by the other. But Roark is one of Eve's suspects and he also has a big antique gun collection. And Eve takes her work really serious.
Because the killer left at the first victim a note with the words "One of Six" on it you know there will be 5 more killings if Eve doesn't stop that man.
Actual one week later the next woman is dead. This time the killer sends the message from the murder directly to Eve and again he left the gun at the place where he did the murder. Because Roark is a suspect in this case Eve meets him. He shows her his gun collection and both spend the night together.
Senator DeBlass is sure that Eve isn't the right person to find the killer of his granddaughter but he lets her supervise. The next day she gets in big trouble at her work because she slept with a suspect. Eve is sure Roarke is innocent so she has to prove this.
When the third woman is killed the events cross. But Eve is the best in her job. Together with the help from Roarke and her partner Feeney she uncovers the dirty truth and unmasks the murderer.
J.D. Robb is the pseudonym for Nora Roberts. Under that name she writes
a series about a police lieutenant called Eve Dallas and the billionar
Roarke. They live in New York in 2058. Because I am a big Nora Roberts
Fan I thought I test her writing style as J.D. Robb and now I can't wait to
find out what will happen to Eve and Roarke in the other books in this
series.

Here is the second story in J.D. Robbs (Nora Roberts) "in Death"-series.
The DeBlass case is now a few months old. Roarke and Eve have started a serious relationship and Roarke would have Eve as his partner, but she doesn't dare show her feelings for him.
Another homicide has happened. Somebody slashed the throat of the famous Prosecuting Attorney Cicely Towers. Her corpse was found in a very disreputable part of the town. Eve is primary investigator in this case because her Commander was a good friend of Towers. A real slimy reporter makes this job like hell for her because she doesn't have a suspicion or a reason for the murder.
And again somebody tries to make Roarke part of the case and this is a problem for Eve. When a second woman is murdered in the same method. This time the victim is the famous actress Yvonne Metclaf. Eve has found out that from the first victim the murderer takes an umbrella and this corpse wears only one shoe. Why does the murderer collect souveniers by his victims?
In private life, Eve and Roarke also have problems. Roarke is in love with her and wants to hear the words also from Eve but she is not sure if she wants a longer affair with him. So he offers an ultimatum: He only wants all from her or nothing.
Eve thinks the murderer kills only famous women. So she plays the bait. She reconciles with Roarke because she can't live without him and she is as often as possible in the news. But somehow this plan works differently than Eve wants it to because a third woman is murdererd only because she had worn the rain coat from Nadine Furst, the woman who made all the stories about her in TV. So the murderer had choosen Nadine as his next victim.
The time becomes close because Eve wants to get the killer before he murders again. Why does he slashed the throats of all the victims? Why does he collect souvenirs?
This case is not an easy job but however Eve is the best police lieutenant in New York in the year 2058. And also this time she wont stop till she finds the guilty person.
Another exciting and masterly written story. I can't wait to read "Immortal in Death", the third story in this series.
