His name is Sebastian d'Arcy, Marquis of Brecon - and he is a great seducer. That's why he is writing a book about his erotic adventures. Sebastian has the idea that the only interesting position for a woman in England in the last century is, to be a mistress.

Madeleine Fourcant, her aunts and her mother are mistresses, is a poor woman but a real beauty. She comes to London to visit her mother and she is the right person for Sebastian's experiment. There is only one important requirement for Madeleine: She should not fall in love with Sebastian. However, what does the great seducer do when he falls in love with his test person?

Madeleine learns everything what a mistress has to know and she becomes a sensation in London, but the new life doesn't make her happy. She did all that only to help her mother who is missing in France.

With Sebastian's help she finds out what happened to her mother, who her father is, and she becomes Sebastian's wife.

In the beginning I thought "What an interesting plot" but this book tells only a mediocre story.
