Emily French is a sous-chef at one of the Roper Hotels when she gets involved with Greg Roper, Executive Manger of Atlantic Eden and son of the owner of the Hotel chain. She tells him she's pregnant and suddenly, he has a thousand excuses as to why they can't get married. One of the excuses is his big brother, Keith Roper, won't let him get married unless she signs a prenuptial agreement. She tells Greg that's no problem but he says he wouldn't hear of it. Emily finally realizes that Greg doesn't want to marry her and doesn't want anything to do with the baby and is making up excuses to put her off.

Greg's parents and brother come to visit and Emily doesn't meet them, but sees them when they come into the dining room for dinner one night. She catches Keith's eye and he cannot figure out why she sends him a look of hatred. Keith gives Greg a check to give to Emily to buy her off. She tears it in half and throws it back at Greg.

She asks to be transferred to the Northwest Eden because she needs the insurance to pay for the baby. The Northwest Eden is the home base of the Roper Hotels. She makes some good friends and has resigned herself to the fact that she will be a single parent. One night she sees on the news that Greg and Keith have been in a car accident and Greg has been killed. Keith has amnesia and cannot remember anything.

Keith and Greg's parents bring Keith home to the Northwest Eden just until he gets his memory back. Actually he is the Executive Manger of the California Eden but since he has amnesia, they want him to recover before he tries to go back to work.

When Keith sees Emily, somehow his bruised brain remembers her and he mistakenly believes he loves her and is the father of her baby. He tells her she has to move into the guest house with him and they have to get married right away. She doesn't want to lie to him but it's an opportunity of a lifetime. She will have a father for her baby and won't ever have to worry about finances again. Also everyone at the hotel was warned not to let anything bother Keith because it may do further damage to his memory.

Neither Keith nor Emily have any idea that they will fall in love. Emily has no idea how Keith with react when he gets his memory back and finds out the truth of the whole situation.

Muriel Jensen takes an awkward situation and turns it into a wonderful story. There are lots of surprises so I suggest you read it and find out for yourself.
