Helen Sanghurst became orphaned and now she has to hear that she is also without means. Her father was a gambler who has lost all his money and then committed suicide. Her last hoe is her guardian, Earl of Strathrowan, who is living in Scotland.
So Helen starts her adventurous trip to Killearn without a chaperone. Also in the stagecoach is the son of the Earl who has just returned from the battlefield.
Captain Duncan Blair is fascinated by the friendly young woman who brings herself to help from one impossible situation to another. He does not know who Helen is because she said him a false name.
Duncan becomes Helens protector and he sees that this is a difficult task. Because he likes Helen, he decided to stay with her for the whole trip. At the end he has finds out that he loves Helen but he can't trust her because she had lied to him. Will Duncan forgive her and will Helen accept Duncans love?
