Contemporary

The reason why I am not really enthusiastic about the book is that the story seems to be a little old for our times. The tale was first published in 1983.

Blair Bowman is a very successful young woman who works for a TV station. The only important thing in her life is her job. Linc Langtry, her neighbor, is in love with her, but Blair does not notice that because Linc is six years younger than her and, at 35, she does not want to have an affair with a younger man.

One day Blair is working on a special report about the new baby-boom. She decided that she also wants a baby because she believes this was her wish for every time. And before it is to late she wants to have a baby. Because Blair has no husband she decides to become pregnant with artificial insemination. Now Linc has his chance. He tells Blair that her spectators never will accept what she become pregnant, as a single woman, by artificial insemination. He offers her to become her husband.

Why not thinks Blair? She would have the right background to become pregnant. So they marry within one week. Blair still wants an artificial insemination, but when Linc tells her the disadvantages she agrees to get a baby from him.

Of course, the sparks fly between both now. However, Blair's pride allowed her not to think about the future. When she knows that her wish will come true and she is pregnant all seems to be okay between the married couple. But the more nearer the birth of the baby comes, the more desperate Linc is. Blair wants the divorce after one year of marriage, but he loves her and the baby and he wants to stay with them. Will his plan be successful?
