Passionate, romantic, and sexy-as-all-get-out is how I would describe the hero in "Wild Irish Skies." Rian O'Byrne is Irish and for some us, that says it all. For those who haven't read an Irish tale, his verbal passages sent shivers through me that I didn't think would end. I could just envision Rian before me, singing one of his bawdy songs or reciting some of his many romantic words, meant to seduce the heroine, resulting in my heart going pitter-patter. My attempts at reading the Irish language definitely did not do the book justice, but all the same, I loved every phrase.
Annora Picot, the only child of Dublin's wealthiest wool merchant, and Rian each have their own troubles. Having met once in their lives it isn't surprising to read that Fate would bring them together again. It stands to reason that they are destined to work through their troubles together.
Annora is trying to prevent her own marriage to a man she does not wish to wed. Rian, having accidently caused the death of an English soldier has found himself one dawn away from having his head swiftly removed from his body.
Having lost all hope, Rian believes his life is at it's end. To his surprise, a family friend of Annora, makes him an offer he can't refuse. Rian is allowed to escape from jail if he promises to lead Annora safely away from Dublin. Rian cannot refuse an opportunity to be with the beauty of his past, as well as save his own neck.
This is a first Nancy Richards-Akers novel for me and I was not disappointed.
Her descriptive writing is intriguing, the history alone was wonderfully told and
the story romantically written. I will not hesitate to try her again should the
opportunity arise. NRA is a master with the romantic word.
