Ariel Denham is a rising young cosmetic surgeon who is forced to take a job at the Fountainhead Foundation, a privately owned non-profit clinic. She had wanted to join a prestigious firm that specialized in cosmetic surgeon for Hollywood stars.
She arrives at the clinic and finds a wonderful working environment, accommodations, and staff but some strange rules. First, she never sees the owner of the clinic and also a curfew imposed for all staff.
Ariel disregards the curfew and goes on a walk her first night there. She meets Jonah. She comes to believe that Jonah is one of the patients who needs treatment because he never leaves the shadows.
This is a wonderful and moving story about a man who must overcome not only facial disfigurement but also feelings of guilt and remorse. It is also the story of Ariel coming to terms with what she really wants to do with her career and dealing with her own emotional issues.
Although Ariel and Jonah don't "make love" until almost the end of the book,
there are many very sensual love scenes prior; Ariel and Jonah kissing for the
first time, Ariel touching Jonah's disfigured face. And even though they both
must overcome some obstacles, the power of love does come through in the end.
