The Tears of a Nation
On September 11, 2001, life as most Americans knew it changed forever. In less than half an hour, I went from watching what I thought was a terrible accident on the Today Show, to witnessing the second airliner slam into the second tower of the World Trade Center in Manhattan.
So many emotions flooded my mind as I watched in horror, confusion, disbelief, shock, and finally, the most overwhelming, heart-wrenching sadness, as I realized that my beloved country was under attack; something I never imagined I’d ever see in my lifetime.
I could use ten million words and never fully express what’s in my heart. I will let the photos and graphics on this page speak for me. I’ve always heard, “One picture is worth a thousand words.” Nothing is more true than at a time like this.
We Will Never Forget
In Loving Memory
“Oh beautiful for spacious skies”
America the Beautiful
A moment that will live in my mind forever
My beloved country under attack
Pentagon
Aftermath
Realizing the loss of their comrades
War Zone of Manhattan
A Wounded Numbness
“When I don’t understand something, I reach up and hold God’s hand. And we walk together in silence.”
—Mahatma Gandhi
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13 - Holy Bible
“O beautiful for heroes proved
Who more than self the country loved
And mercy more than life!”
America the Beautiful
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it always.”
—Mahatma Gandhi
“Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted.”
Matthew 5:4 - Holy Bible
“O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail”
—Francis Scott Key
Lady Liberty Still Standing Tall
“And this be our motto: ‘In God is our trust!’
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!”
—Francis Scott Key
Each person who died on September 11th was someone's son or daughter...maybe someone's father or mother...maybe someone's husband or wife. Each person had a name...a life. This is my way of remembering one of those people. I will forever remember this man...this name.
You, too, can adopt a victim so that he or she isn't just a nameless statistic. Click on Eric Allen's Memorial Plaque to find out more.
“Gone from our sight but never our memories.
Gone from our touch but never our hearts.”
And God Wept
I awoke to the terror
of airplanes falling from the sky,
Heaven’s gates are fully opened
Why did so many have to die?
Many brave Angels
Found their way home today
Innocent lives sacrificed,
Someone’s careless debt paid.
There was no lesson in the suffering,
Too many lives were lost
In the name of who you stand for
How much worth...what did it cost?
The world is turning upside down.
God now, surely weeps
To look upon the death of His children
For those now, forever asleep.
Take a moment to remember,
Those souls forever lost
And remember that with every action
There always is a cost.
