Rosie's Ramblings

April 2, 2000

Hello Out There,

I must start out this month by giving a great big thank you to “Unusual Museums of the Internet”. I hope my visitors have all noticed their link at the bottom of my home page. “Unusual Museums” has received a considerable amount of publicity lately, which probably helps explain why a whopping 330 people visited Rosie’s this month.

I would also like to thank the two kind ladies who wrote about their visits this week. You cannot imagine how good it makes me feel when someone takes the time to write and say they enjoyed visiting. Their random acts of kindness made my day and couldn’t have come at a better time.

My additions this month include a couple of advertising book – “Raggedy Ann” and “Success Mercantile”. I remember the day I found my “Raggedy Ann”. It was so pristine, I worried that it was a reproduction. Since then I have seen dozens like it on eBay. The “Success Mercantile” contains a 1911 calendar on the inside. I have included an enlarged picture, for those who would like to read the witty (?) sayings on it, and don’t mind waiting for it to load. Those were the days!

On my “Army & Navy” page, I have added a needle packet. I am not sure if this packet was part of a needle book, or stood alone. If it belongs with a needle book, it is not one that I have. I would love for someone to help me solve this mystery. Let me hear from you!

I would like to say that I am happy with my new article about “ Favorites” this month. I think I have come out of it with more questions than I had going in. The range of dates uncovered by my research is troublesome. I was hoping that the timeline would be clearer. Perhaps I’ll have a “Favorites Part 2” sometime in the future.

I continue to be amazed by the vast number of needle books out there. I regularly see books I have never seen before. One thing is for certain—more than a few different pop-up needle books were made. I now have six in my collection. I remember when I believed I would never be lucky enough to own even one. Bidding has been especially competitive on eBay lately. If nothing else, needle book collecting is teaching me patience.

Happy Hunting,

Rosie
