Rosie's Ramblings
August 2, 2001
Hello Out There,
I don’t know about where you’re at, but it sure is hot here. During July I made a loop through Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina. Naturally I stopped at every antique place that I saw. Either I’m extremely unlucky, or needle books are getting harder to find. I just didn’t see that many. I purchased two, both of them advertising books, and neither terribly exciting. Oh well, I feel like I’ve gotten a few bargains on eBay lately, so I guess it all evens out.
My additions this month are all on the Army and Navy page. I have added another version of the book that I call anchor. I re-did the picture so that you can see both at the same time. The first has a sunrise in the background and says “Sunray” near the bottom. The back of this book says “Trade Mark” and features a little airplane. The version without the sunrise has Pegasus flying over the planet earth on the reverse. I think someone has marked out the “made in occupied Japan” on its cover. Maybe this indicates someone’s particularly bad experience as a result of WWII.
The next book is hard to name. When I saved the file, I called it twoplanes for lack of a better name. This book has an eagle on the back and is unmarked. Next I have the National. This is another in the “Iowa” family. It also has an eagle on the reverse, but it is different than the other. Inside is a North American Needle Company packet. The colors on this book are more pastel than most other needle books. It is marked registered, but does not have country of origin. The last entry is also kin to "Iowa", but it is marked Gelbros instead. Inside it has best warranted prize medal AND gelbros packets. It is marked made in Germany. There are other "Gelbros" needle books, but this is the only one I have in the army/navy category.
Donna, at Sewing.com, featured a brief description and link to Rosie’s this past month. Thanks to her, I had lots of unexpected new visitors. I hope many of them choose to return again. I hope all the Rosie's regulars will take the time to visit her site...it's worth it. Letters from my visitors seem to come in spurts and I sure enjoyed the influx this month.
School starts in two weeks and I’m suffering from “back to work” blues. Please write and cheer me up!
Love,
Rosie
