Rosie's Ramblings

December 4, 1999

Hello Out There,

The past month was lucky for me. I was able to acquire several needle books that I had been wanting for some time. I am proud to add the beautiful "Betsy Ross" to my museum. This is not the only "Betsy" that exists, so I still have another one on my wish list.

Also featured this month is the unusual "Train and Angel". It has the same basic shape as the Amelia Earhart commemorative needle book called "Trans-Atlantic Aeroplane". Interestingly, the "Train and Angel" was made in Japan and the "Trans-Atlantic" was made in Czechoslovakia. How strange that two different countries produced such similar books.

My next prize is an advertising premium for the Merrick's Thread Company. It is adorned with a lovely, but faded red ribbon. It has an unusual shape and is a true antique...dated 1887. Also new to the museum this month is nice die-cut advertising book for "Lexington Maid Flour" and the pretty fan-shaped "Magnolia"."

I recently spotted the "Home" needle book at an area shop. There are lots of "Home" needle books, but I had never seen one like this before. The children on it are darling. But...it had a big problem...the seller had put a gigantic price tag right in the upper left-hand corner of the FRONT of the book. I bought it anyway. I have had some luck removing tags using a warm iron and pressing cloth. When I got home, I got out my iron and my pressing cloth and began to patiently remove the ugly tag. The tag came off, but what was underneath was not pretty. I believe the seller I bought from, had placed a new tag, to cover up where an old tag had been crudely torn away. Oh, well, I love it anyway.

As always, I have marked my latest additions with "New!". To celebrate the Christmas season, I went overboard and added more than usual. Rosie's had over 200 visits last month and I am grateful for every single one of them. I do wish more visitors would write me with their impressions (e-mail me at rosierider@yahoo.com). Happy Holidays and thanks for visiting!

Rosie
