Rosie's Ramblings
June 1, 2000
Hello Out There,
It was a year ago this month that I first began writing “Rosie’s Ramblings”. At that time I posed the following questions:
In another year will I still be finding needle books on eBay? Will I still enjoy this means of collecting?
The answer to both questions is yes. One weird thing I’ve noticed is that they come in spurts. Some days go by with nothing of interest then suddenly there will be 10 books up for auction that I want.
This past month I went to yet another Flea Market. I found the lovely “Cannan & Hopkins” advertising book. The condition is poor, but it only cost a dollar. I don’t mind the flaws too much. It is dated 1921.

I have made two additions to my Army & Navy Needle Book Exhibit. The first is another single ship book named “Jdaho”, obviously a misspelling of Idaho. This needle book has the standard eagle back with “superior” packets inside. My second addition is a montage of the American Army & Navy Needle Books.
I included both versions, a view of the tissue wrapper, and the colorful needlepack sometimes found inside. If you’d like to go directly to view the up-dated Army & Navy Needle Book Exhibit, click here.
There are really pretty needle books from the 1950’s, and then there are those like “Filter Queen”. The only reason I was attracted to this book, is that my mother had a similar vacuum as I was growing up. It sort of reminds me of a robot. Click here to see what I’m talking about.
My final addition this month is an article I wrote for a friend’s newsletter. It features the “President’s Mansion” needle book. My copy of this needle book is far from pristine, but I’ve added a picture anyway. You can find both here.
I have several needle book hunting trips planned for this summer and I have my fingers crossed.
See you next month,
Rosie
P. S. Just this morning Ron McCoy included a link to this site in his monthly Newsletter. Thanks Ron! If you do not already get his newsletter, you can subscribe by sending a blank email to: antique-collect-subscribe@topica.com. I know that I look forward to receiving it each month.
