Rosie's Ramblings

September 4, 1999

Hello Out There!

I have made a number of changes to Rosie's this month. Unfortunately the biggest was against my wishes (see Home Page). I have added a "Horseshoe Needle Books" page to my "Special Exhibits" section. Check out the "Dean's Family" on my "Evolution of Needle Books" page. I also added four new books to my alphabet pages. I have marked them as "New!". Remember, I only have a fraction of my collection up for viewing. There is much more to come!

In early August I spent 2 days in St. Louis and shopped 'til I dropped. I must have visited 6-8 large antique malls. I found one really great needle book, "Primadonna",which I have displayed on my new Horseshoe Page. I also found "True Friend", "Best Yet", and the smaller of the two "Dean's"

I saw a "Presidents of the U.S." book priced at $25--I passed. I have seen them sell on eBay for less, plus I am not a huge fan of politics.. They also had a "Hoover" book priced at $25. The highest priced needle book that I saw was one of the horseshoe books - the one with the pretty lady and horse marked only with a "W" (like the one on my "Horseshoe" page). This mint book included the original package and was marked a whopping $35 at a store specializing in ephemera. I saw lots of "Happy Homes" and "Sewing Susans" (some optimistically priced at $10). Others spotted were "Century of Progress", "Lipton Tea", "Finepoint", "Raggedy Ann", "The Darling",and numerous examples of the "Home Needle Case". I was heartbroken to find a rough copy of "Matchless" (not the kind that looks like "Happy Home") book in 2 pieces with no needles marked $5. It is still there.

I kept hoping to find another great book (even one I already have, to use for trading purposes). but no such luck. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, but was glad to get back to eBay - Land of Opportunity.

Today I went to an annual outdoor Flea Market at a nearby park. I found a really cool "McCormick-Deering Cream Seperator" needle book. It's not as nice as the "Sharpels" I have seen on eBay, but it still has a nice picture on the back. I will try to add it soon.

The hunt goes on!

Rosie
