Be Good to Yourself
Most of your time it seems
Is taken up with bitterness and tears.
Most of your life it seems
Has been full of frustration and fear.
Running into brick walls,
Not caring where you go,
Walking in unlighted halls, not knowing
You are your own worst foe.
Wearing your problems like medals
Hiding yourself behind a mask
Bricking up your feelings behind a wall
I really can't help but ask-
Where you have hidden your heart
Kept it all these years?
From your soul kept it apart
Kept it away with sadness and fear.
You have to be
Good to yourself
Until you do
No one else will.
You have to learn
To love yourself.
Unless you do
No one ever will.
You have to be
good to yourself.
Empty darkness and empty light.
Feel no love, but feel no pain.
Lonely days and restless nights.
Without risk, there is no gain.
Your soul cries out to shed
Its bitter tears of hate.
Your heart cries to be fed
Listen before it's too late.
To learn to be
Good to yourself
Let the pain
Slowly wash away.
And to learn to
Love yourself
And let that hurt
Just fade away.
