A gentleman should never assume that because he
has shared
a dance with a lady that he is welcome to call on her. If he is
interested in further contact he must make the proper inquiries
and receive an introduction from a mutual acquaintance.

Dates were almost always supervised by a chapherone.
It
was considered improper for a lady to go anyplace alone
with a gentleman.

A lady was never to go out with a gentleman late
at night.

It was also improper for a gentleman caller to
remain in
a ladies home until a late hour.

Gentleman that wished to call on a lady must first
seek
the ladies permission to call.

Ladies should always said goodbye at the parlor
door to
gentleman callers, a servant would then see the caller out.

Gentleman that wished to see a lady home from a
social
event had to formally ask permission by presenting her with a card.

Gifts of a personal nature were not to be
given.
