Well, academically speaking, today was a ridiculously good day. I got my test back in my World Literature class (we're studying neoclassical and romantic works) and... well. No, I didn't have an A on the test - I got a nice and plain B, which felt good, considering I had not even read one of the novels we studied (excerpts from Gullivers' Travels - the part where he ends up in the land of Houyhnhnms). We went through the test, and I felt pleased of having done better than I expected. And then we ended up on the last test assignment - the essay we had had to write.

"Well, nobody made 40 points on the essay, the highest was 37, which a few of you got."

*gulp* - Oh My Ghod, I made a 37! An A! I have never been among the highest score ever apart from easy high school english classes back in Sweden. I sat there and felt victorious. And then..

"I xeroxed one of the better essays, and will now read it to you out loud, to give you an idea what I was looking for. 'When looking at the three works..'"

When looking at... huh? She.. Uh, she's reading MY essay?? I blushed violently. I'm not trying to brag. I'm not trying to pretend I wrote a brilliant essay. It's just... nothing I have ever written have ever been read out loud in a class before. I'm totally proud over myself. Now don't drop the ball..

No, that wasn't it. I went and found one of the professors I had last semester in World Socities (history) who had given me an (i)ncomplete, for that class instead of a grade. The idea was to figure out something I could do this semester to earn a better/real grade. He did that teacher thing - "what do YOu think you should do?" but, heh, I had no suggestions and asked him what he thought. "Well, you could read the chapters over again and take quizzes on them, and we'd make a grade from that, or you could do some big project." Now, the reason I was so bad in that class last semester was because I never did my readings, and failed the quizzes, so I quickly opted to do a project... only... what?

"What is your major?"
"English - concentration in massmedia & communi.."
"OH a Mass media major? Have you gotten your independent film producer certificate yet? [i think that was what the certificate was called]"
"Uuuuuh.. no..?"
"Okay, well, we'll get you a certificate, and then once you know how to work equiptment and edit and stuff, your project could be to produce some videos for this departement."

[insert Jennie's Jaw dropped onto the floor]

It is still a bit uncertain what'll happen, but basically he gave me a few numbers and told me to call them and check when they have their next work shops so I can get the certificate eventually. And then he and I will figure out some events in the area I can cover. Okay, how insane is that? I'm... I'm actually going to learn something I can use in real life, earn a good grade in a class from LAST semester... I don't know. Let's hope it works out. We'll see if I can make it onto The Daily Show's "Public Excess" clip segment one day ;)

If you wondering about the shapeshifting of this diary... I just feel like it. I might change it with every entry, I might keep a look I like for a while... I don't know. It just feels so much nicer not to feel confined by a background colour, or a style concept. Oh, and if you're wondering why I'm using so many PJ images.. it is because A) I find her interesting when photographed, and B) I have between 250-350 images of PJ Harvey archived at my site - half of them live images with a huge variety of colours, looks and expressions. They make good fun to play around with. That's all.

My advisor drove me home late last night, and told me that instead of showing an old western movie (High Noon) in his movie criticism class that day, he had shown them "Sliding Doors". Now the funny part about that is that I recommeded it to him earlier this week after seeing it last weekend, so he rented it and decided to show it. It just seems kind'a silly to me that in a small way, I'm responsible for an entire class having had a particular movie as part of their movie studies, instead of another. He also said most of them liked it :)

Speaking of movies - I think I'm going to see Hilary & Jackie tomorrow on my own, and maybe even Waking Ned Devine. Hooray for matinees!

My advisor also shared the following link with me, I spread it at the talker I go to, and now it's all over the place:

The Dancing and Singing Hamsters!

Beware - it starts to play a .wav, and it's lots of animated gifs there. :)
