Annie will be releasing her Central Park concert on video very soon.
Annie Lennox follows up her stunning debut solo effort, Diva, with the unique and engaging Medusa. Diva received critical and commercial acclaim and garnered double platinum sales in the United States alone. Medusa further showcases Lennox's distinctive voice and style, lending itself to unique interpretations of other people's songs. The material provides a mesmerizing mix of the familiar and the newly rediscovered. The album includes the haunting first single "No More 'I Love You's,'" (originally recorded by The Lover Speaks) of which Annie says, " I think it's a magnificent song, the words, the lyrics were extraordinary, and the absolutely perfect sort of vehicle for me to interpret." Annie delivers unique renditions of "Take Me To The River" (Al Green), "A Whiter Shade of Pale" (Procol Harem), "Don't Let It Bring You Down" (Neil Young) "Train In Vain" (Clash), " I Can't Get Next To You" (The Temptations), "Downtown Lights" (Blue Nile), "Thin Line Between Love and Hate, " "Waiting In Vain" (Bob Marley) and "Something So Right" (Paul Simon). Lennox explains the desire to do this material, "Medusa has arisen from the need to do something different. To qualify that, form the early '80's I have been writing and co-writing songs and arrived at the stage where I just wanted to break that pattern for a while." On interpreting these songs, Lennox says, For me it would be ludicrous to simply try to reconstitute a second rate version of a brilliant song. The challenge lay in the notion of interpretation." The March issue of Vanity Fair, in which Lennox is featured, states, "Listening to Annie Lennox's upcoming album of cover songs, contributing editor Cathy Horyn was struck by the power of the singer's imprint. Like Frank Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald, Lennox has made the music her own: 'You listen to songs you know belong to other people, but with Annie's interpretation, you can only hear her voice.'" Diva, released in 1992, spawned two major Top 10 smash hits, "Why" and "Walking on Broken Glass." Diva received three Grammy nominations, including "Album of the Year." Annie was voted "Best Female Singer" by the readers of Rolling Stone magazine and the critical acclaim rang out from publications ranging from Rolling Stone, People, Time, Billboard and more. Annie Lennox shows why she is one of the premier voices and stylists of our time, always daring to be different while remaining a multi-faceted artist and visionary. Medusa showcases yet another facet of Annie Lennox.
