Dear Greg,
What you say is fantastic! and what is more fantastic is it is really true!
All through the ages the mystics, the seers, the lovers of God, having been saying this thing. And yet we have been blind, and deaf.
Tao truly speaks from direct personal experience. Unless and until you have the direct personal experience the duality and the conflict of this world will harass you.
May we all pray that we all get, at least a glimpse of this powerful explosion of love called the Divine, the Lord.
We all are fugitives. We are not running away from any law, but from ourselves. Until and unless we stop and turn inward, our lives remain full of sound and fury but no substance, no significance.
Thanks for spreading such wisdom on the NET ( which is becoming more and more another means of escapism, and more mediocre than other media)
As Osho Rajneesh says- " there is nowhere to go but within", we all will have to turn inwards.
May you blessed to keep up the good work to spread the message of the Heart in this age of cold reason.
Sincerely,
Amit Gaikwad

Great site, really make the effort to continue this site, as it is rare to find a religion that openly accepts us gay people. Taoism is spot on, its just a shame I live in the UK where there is barely any community at all!
Blessed be all
Comments:
Hi Greg, Thanks for the site... I'm new to The
Tao (about 2 months) but I must admit there
has been a very deep grab that feels like
coming home. I guess I've been a Taoist all
along but didnt know it. I appreciate you
providing a community of sorts, to those of us
who are attracted to this simple and profound
philosophy. Will you be expanding your
website so we can begin a dialogue together;
or perhaps providing a way to help us
organize support groups locally? I've been
struggling find other Taoists, but have only
been running into those darned Buddhists
(even here in the San Francisco Bay Area!)
Thanks again for the great site and spreading
the word!

Hi. Beautiful site....and just what I needed. Sometimes helps to remind yourself of the beauty/importance of taoism! If anybody knows of any UK taoist groups/retreats I'd be really grateful if they could let me know. Keep up the good work. Neil.

You have an incredible site Greg, I've read the Tao Te Ching many times, the John C. H. Wu translation and the Aleister Crowly Translation, and absolutely Love the Common Sense Quality to it. I am currently seeking out a wider variety of translations sin

I was talking to a freind today, who suggested that I check out you site. Am I ever glad that I did! While not having the opportunity to ponder the entire site, two items caught my attention in a big way. The poem, "Beginning Step" touched me. "The In

Taoism contains all the answers that life can seem to dish out. It shows you that all the answers are within yourself. When you look into yourself, you see that there are no answers because the problems don't exist as anything but what you veiw them as. T
e answer is this: To the hangged man, that wich is right-side up it upside down, and vice versa. So, go hang yourself.
(Please don't misinterperet that)

Being a gay Taoist is souch easier than being a gay Christian. I've just spent the past season embracing the Christian dogma. Even as one of them I was still judged. People are so ignorant. They keep bringing up Romans, "no man shall lie with another"
That book was written by Paul - a true nut case.
It feels good to be holding on to the center again. Why did I do it? I think to get my co-workers to shut up. It didn't work of course. Oh! the hippocracy! I'm sure you've travelled that path. I almost threw the Bible in the dumpster but my other h

I'm all Taoist and embrace Celtic mysticism. It's good to be back.

Very nice. I especially like the L.A. Times story, very touching.

This is so interesting. It's like a cross between psychology and spirituality. I very rarely stop to smell the roses or wake up early to see a beautiful sunrise but I do find myself practcing the same habits that I do every day. Its so much easier to just
sit down on the bus in the morning than try to start a conversation. I often find myself making up lies because its easier to admit fault but that only makes more diffiult because I have to deal with myself. It's one thing to collect these stories and wri
e these thoughts but if you can live out two or three days like this then you have a much higher quality of life than my whole week. You are really a brave and adventerous person to try to live like this and you will probabaly have a much more meaningful
nd rewarding life than the person that becomes stuck in his daily routine.

On a personal note, as a student of all things Chinese, I am interested in Taoism. Although I am Christian, to date, I can find none of the central tenents of Taoism that are in conflict with my own faith. I have read several interpretations of the Tao

Have you read any books by the author Alan Watts? He is a great interpretor of Taoism and Eastern philosophy in general. I espiecially recomend two books which he wrote: "The book: On the Tabooo against knowing Who You Are" and "Tao: The Watercourse Way"
I am a gay Taoist myself, and I personally think that the two are go together harmoniously. I despise Christianity with a passion, and think that it would be a better world if more people were Taoist and fewer were Jesus freaks.
Anyway, I would love to discuss Taoism [or philosophy in general] with you via email if you like.
"The Great Tao flow everywhere
To the left and to the right.
All things depend upon it to exist,
And it does not abandon them.
To its acomplishments it lays no claim.
It loves and nourishes all things,
But does not lord it over them"

You have a nice website. The picture looks familiar. The Yangtze that is to be dammed, I believe. I study and try to live by the best of all constructive religious philosophies. Tao Te Ching is one of them. Such studies and practice renewed my spirit
, too. I have been studying and trying to practice for about forty years. I like Victor H. Mair's translation of Tao Te Ching as it has some extremely interesting commentary in the back. It is a difficult, scholarly appendix, but it is well worth readi
g if one is seeking truth. If you want to learn about kundalini...that's the first western link I have seen tying it to India and perhaps other places. Tao says it is nameless...did you know that the same holds true for some southwestern teachings, as d
scussed in Churchwood's, THE LOST CONTINENT OF MU? INTERESTING PARALLEL.

to the creator of this page,
What I desire is non-desire but I would never intentionally be a hypocrite.I shall keep looking inside myself and there I shall find the tao "written in my heart".I wish you well and thank you for helping in raising our world's self-awareness.....
we must believe in ourselves and not try to convince others of what we have found for this surely makes them think we do not know (even if it is an unconcious thought).Seeing sites like this one is nice, it reminds me I am not alone in wanting to let go,
am not alone in wanting to let everything just be, I am not alone in longing to find myself ....even if I have to lose myself to do it.
I wish you a great journey, whether of a thousand miles or just an inch....may you find that part of you that never forgot!
sincerely,

Hello there-
I am taking a Raku Pottery course at U of Maine in Orono. Part of our course work is to research an aspect of Raku pottery in small groups and then present our research in any form to the class. Also we are responsible for bringing "a piece" of our aspect
to class each day. The four aspects we are covering are:
Ikebana, the flower arrangements
Kakemono, the scrolls
Chanoyu, the tea ceremony etiquette
Zen and Taoist philosophies in Raku
My part is the last one and I was wondering if anyone had any information that they could share with me.
The information could be books, articles, websites, personal ideas/experiences, etc.
I'm also interested in any sort of info regarding meditation exercises, so that we can lead the class in the exercises in the beginning of each day.
I'm meeting with my group again at noon on Thurs. Our presentations are due next Tues. So if anyone has any info that they could share soon, I would appreciate it.
Also if you have any information on any of the topics mentioned above, I would appreciate it. I could send it on to my classmates.
Please e-mail me privately with information at:
SAS@umit.maine.edu
Thank-you so much in advance.
Peace,
Sara Silverstein

focus on incorporating taoism into your life. I think all too often, religious people are simply going through the motions rather than living according to their alleged beliefs. Your site was really inspiring and I am extremely happy I found it (i have it
bookmarked now) even though it is 3:15 am and I still have so much work to do! Thanks so much for this.
Love and happiness,
Goli
PS please write back if you ever get the chance

ago, when I started reading Chuang Tzu's writings. Anyway, I'm encouraged to see someone take such a graphic and poetic interest in this .. it was a pleasant surprise to see this during my Rainbow Query "tour" .. as a gay man I have found too much busy-

I am glad I stumbled across your Web site. I am gay and interested in Taoism. Ironically, though I have a masters in religion from Yale, I didnt't dedicate a moment to the study of Tao while in school. It's an interest that's developed since graduating
and I know little about it. (Now I'm in the corporate world--publishing; striving but failing to live the very un-Taoist life the gay "community" of NYC demands of one). My Web site is very "under construction," but you're welcome to visit it. Feel fr
e to email me, too, at your inclination.
One minor comment (very minor): is your disclaimer really necessary? It has the same dampening effect that THIS "oh, by the way" section has relative to the rest of my letter. ( :
I would suggest that the disclaimer goes w/o saying and your page ends more powerfully with just the picture of the wandering Taoist.
Finally: Can I use the images of the flying birds on my own Taoism page (still being created)?
Thank you for your time,
Scott

Greg, great site! I've been to China and have some Taoist writings which I cherish. I'd like to know more about "gay and Taoist". Is this an incidental association like "I just happen to be gay and Taoist" or is there some fundamental connection or str
in of meaning, call it "the gay Way"? Are there any gay Taoist groups that you know of? Any resources, references or referals? Your reply gets a sincere "Thanks!"

I like your site. The words are comforting and so true. I feel anxious inside at the moment due to
difficulties and unspoken words in a relationship. I hope your site can help calm my anxieties.
THANKS!

I have just entered your website and have found it to be very true to what I already believe and live. A good friend of mine got me interested in Taoism and now I realise he should practice what he preaches. I gained a sense of serentity within mys
lf quite a few years ago and couldn't comprehend why or how. Now I know the fire was lit then and has been smoldering, intensifying as my knowledge grew. Not my knowledge of Taoism, but of my inner self. Of who I was and was to become. Nature has alwa
s ruled my life and will continue to rule over me for many thousands of years to come. May we all know someday the true nature of things, and not of what society thinks is the true nature of things. Peace to you my friend and safe journey.

Greg,
I am busy recently and don't have much time on net. But it is amazing to see you have make great progress in your page and get it featured!!!
If I don't make a mistake, the photo in your front page is Mount Tai.(a Taoist Saint mountain).
Is that right?
Wish you a happy week!

Well, I like the part which introduces the Taoism. But I know that there are many westerners believing in Christianity. I wanna know what do you think of Christianity? And do you believe in God? If do, do you think that it will violate the law of the God
f we try to be homosexual?
Sorry for asking you so many questions. As I am a Christian, I think I should treat homosexual as immoral.
However, I find that I have a tendency to love guy.
I am really in a dilemma.
