The Cedric was launched on August 21, 1902, and was delivered five months later on January 31, 1903. At the time of delivery, she was the largest ship in the world until 1904. The Cedric made her maiden voyage on February 11, 1904 from Liverpool to New York. On December 4, 1914 she became an auxiliary cruiser with the 10th Cruiser Squadron. From 1915 until the end of the war, the Cedric served as a troop and supply transport. Between 1917 and 1919 she was taken over by the government under the Liner Requisition Scheme. On January 29, 1918 the Cedric collided at the Mersey Bar with the Montreal of Canadian Pacific, which sank. On December 14, 1918 she made her first postwar voyage from Liverpool to New York. In 1920 her steerage accommodation was rebuilt for 1,000 3rd Class passengers. The Cedric made her last White Star voyage from Liverpool to New York on September 5, 1931. Upon return she was sold for breaking up to T.W. Ward. She made her final voyage on January 11, 1932 from Liverpool for breaking up at Inverkeithing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
