Copper Park derives its name from the large amount of blue-green copper float which is visible in this very high mountain meadow. Just above Copper Park, an old cabin can be seen that was built for the Deep Tunnel Mine operation during the years of 1899 to 1927. The mining operation built a tunnel through Baldy in search of large amounts of gold, however no significant amounts were located. Also near this area is a plane crash that occured in 1988 when two civilians traveling from Goodland, Kansas to Phoenix, Arizona crashed an old army plane. Reaching Copper Park is difficult as the hike from French Henry is called "The Wall."
