Dan Beard Camp

Camp Type: Staff

Region: North

Elevation: 7910 ft.

Water: Purified

Campsites: 11

The camp is named after the Scouting pioneer Daniel Carter Beard and is the northermost camp on Philmont and also serves as a gateway into the Valle Vidal. Before being closed in 1969, Dan Beard was used as a staff camp in the 1960's offering Dutch Oven Cooking and a Chuckwagon Feast. It was later reopened as a staff camp again in 1989 after the log cabin was repaired. The only program offered was Low Impact Camping; the Dan Beard Challenge Course, however, was then added in 1990. In 1991, construction was completed on the new staff cabin located at the camp.
