If you're ever considering a trip to the Flagstaff or Sedona, Arizona regions, you should really try and get your grimy mitts on a copy of the book "Fat Tire Tales And Trails" by Cosmic Ray. For that matter, if you're like me and you like to collect trail guides, your money will be well spent on this little gem. The most current issue is only $12 (includes S&H) and is jam packed with great information and stories. Cosmic Ray features a Biking Trail Of The Month as well as a Hiking Trail Of The Month on his web site. What you see there is the type of information you'll receive in the book. [TIP: If you do go to Flagstaff, stop by the Cosmic Cycles Bike Shop and see if you can score one of the shop stickers. A worthy addition to hang on your trusty mountain steed.] |
The year is 1998. The Federal Government is the puppet of a consortium of the 20 large corporations which run the country. State and local governments have been completely taken over by real estate developers, whose goal it is to turn America into one giant suburb consisting of subdivisions, apartment complexes, shopping malls, and office parks.Bicycles have been all but outlawed. The Bicycle Act of 1992 made it illegal to appropriate tax dollars for bike lanes, paths, etc., and included a provision that "those persons riding bicycles on public roads do so entirely at their own risk." The law was originally intended to stem the flood of imports of Japanese bikes before foreign trade was cut off entirely in '94.
However, the ramifications of this law were much more serious. If a cyclist were to be injured or killed by a motorist, the motorist could not be prosecuted or even sued. It is open season on cyclists. One man fights back....
The New Belgium Brewing Company makes several fine beers, one of which is Fat Tire Amber Ale. I would rate this high on my choices of post-ride relaxation/re-hydration beverage choices. Sample their web site and then pick up a bottle or two and enjoy (in moderation of course). | ![]() |
