PHILIPPINE COCKATOO (Cacatua haematuropygia)
Family Psittacidae: Parrots

Description: White, except for crest, wings and tail which have varying degrees of yellow, and the reddish-pink undertail coverts. Bill dirty white and feet bluish.

Distribution and habits: Although found throughout the Philippines, it has become very scarce except in Palawan and the Sulu Archipelago where small flocks may still be seen. Occurs in the lowlands and in the mountains on small islands, in mangrove swamps, cultivated land, secondary growth and primary forest. Feeds on fruit and seeds with a preference for maturing corn and rice. Nests in holes in trees. Voice: "awwwk-awwwk"; also grating screams. Capable of mimicking the human voice.
