YOU TELL HIM WORLD

He looks at the world through little boy's eyes
He knows nothing of sin nor of hate.
We've tried our best to teach him what's right
I only hope it's not too late.
The boys on the corner, they won't play with him
They say they don't like the black.
He comes to me with innocent eyes
And says " Daddy, can you explain that ?"
You tell him world, you make him see
It's just too hard for me.
How can I tell him what ought to be true
When not even I can believe.
Do I tell him that life isn't pretty ?
Can a little boy understand ?
Why men must die and people must hate
In this psedueo freedom land.
Do I tell him that predjudice is not just a word
And that love has become obsolete
Or do I tell him just to struggle along
It's a cold, hard world he will meet.
You tell him world, you make him see
It's just too hard for me.
How can I tell him what ought to be true
When not even I can believe.
Or do I tell him to stand up like a man
And to hold his head up high
This world is not a place for the weak
But little boys like him must cry.
Or do I tell him that someday the sun will shine
And that maybe we will all be free
Or do I tell him that nothing in this world will change
And that what is, will always be
You tell him world, you make him see
It's just too hard for me.
How can I tell him what ought to be true
When not even I can believe.
He looks at the world
Through little boy's eyes.
And he can't see.
