Well, there you have it! Bob's a firearms collector no less!

Many people in South Africa regard firearms collectors as odd people who specialize in the finding, restoration, cataloging - and sometimes shooting - of old blackpowder flintlock / musket type guns. This is ofcourse not the situation!

I know of only one or two blackpowder collectors in South Africa. (There is a SA Blackpowder Shooters Association). The majority of South African collectors that I'm acquinted with, specialize in a wide variety of categories of mostly recently manufactured modern firearms. Each to his own.

My Collection is focused primarily on target and match quality small and big bore firearms. A secondary objective is to collect the 'classics' of Colt, Smith & Wesson and Ruger to satisfy the primary objective. You'll get a feeling og what I mean when you go through my Collection. Ontop
of the foregoing, I'm also collecting Sako rifles.

You can already get the impression than my Collection consists of a wide variety of firearms from different makers. Below you'll find a complete listing of my Collection.

                    Note:

    This section forms the primary focus of my collection. All the rifles and handguns are in .22LR caliber.
    Pictures of  individual firearms will be added later on.
 

    The Winchester M52C is capable of holding 10 shots within 28mm @ 100m with unsorted standard velo-
    city ammunition.

Large Bore Target Rifles

    All the rifles in this section can actually be classified as Varminters.
 
 

Sako                                                                                                                                                    
    All of the Sako's in my collction are built on the small L461 action, or it's predecessor. These are truly
    beautiful, elegant and accurate rifles - very high fondle factors.
 

Smith & Wesson                                                                                                                                 
    My slowly growing Smith & Wesson collection revolves around the target quality firearms manufactured by
    the company, as well as those models percieved as 'classics'.
 

Ruger                                                                                                                                                    
    My slowly growing Ruger collection revolves around the same principles as that for the Smith & Wesson
    section, namely target quality firearms manufactured by the company, as well as those models percieved
    as 'classics'. You'll get the idea as you study the table.
 

Colt                                                                                                                                                            
    My little collection of Colt's primarily turn around collecting some of the more famous classics, as Colt's
    have never been as popular in SA as S&W, Ruger or Taurus.
 

Miscellaneous Collectables

    The firearms in this section only share two characteristics, they are considered as classics and most of
    them are no longer manufactured. Some of these are in excellent condition, and some not!
 
 

The Rest of my Firearms

    Most of the firearms in this section are those that I use on a frequent basis for sporting, competition,
    hunting or personal protection purposes. Most of these are my 'working guns'.

    Semi-Automatics
    Under present South African Legislation the ownership of a semi-automatic rifle or shotgun is
    not expressly prohibited, however, the South African Police Services has a long standing policy
    that private ownership of semi-automatics are only allowed if you have a VERY good reason for
    requiring one. Only the registered categories of Collector or Sportperson have ready acces to this
    class of firearms.

    My small collection of semi-auto's is in existence because:
    1) They represent 'classics' that have played significiant roles in the shaping of the Western world,
    2) They represent examples of the products of certain manufacturers that I collect, eg. Ruger, or
    3) I use them for sporting purposes.
