(Weston, West Virginia)---The Weston Carp Festival Association announced today that the annual Carp Fishing Tournament, Music and Crafts Festival will be held this year during the second week of June, and that the Festival will be expanded from a two day event to three full days. The Fishing Tournament however, will only be held two of the three days, on Saturday and Sunday.
It was decided to move the popular celebration to June 7-8-9 so the festival would coincide with the observance of National Fishing Week, which runs from June 3-11. West Virginia Governor Bob Wise announced this week that he will continue an eleven-year gubernatorial tradition, and declared June 8 and 9 as a “FREE FISHING” weekend in the Mountain State.
This will allow in-state and out of state fishermen to compete in this years Weston Carp Fishing Tournament without having to purchase a West Virginia Fishing License, thereby increasing the number of competitors vying to catch the biggest Carp.
One-hundred-sixty-eight people registered and fished in last years tournament which was won by 11-year-old Lee Metz of Jane Lew, West Virginia. Metz’ prize catch measured 32-inches in length and weighed 23 pounds 11 ounces.
This years Festival will once again be held on the picturesque grounds of the former Weston State Hospital adjacent to the West Fork River in downtown Weston and promises to be bigger and better than ever, providing visitors with three full days of traditional Appalachian Music, Food, Crafts and lots of fun and fishing.
