(From the 2001 National Jamboree Troop Leader Guide
with adaptations for the Atlanta Area Council)

Official Jamboree Uniform -- Official Scout Clothing Only - NO SUBSTITUTES!
  • Scout shirt (tan)
    (3 recommended, or required,
    depending on your troop) with:

  • Jamboree neckerchief  # (will receive this at Ft. A.P. Hill -- before we arrive each troop will designate its own official neckwear) 
  • Troop woggle (neckerchief slide) 
  • Jamboree ball cap 
  • Scout shorts (any official shorts) (2-3 recommended) 
  • Scout khaki web or leather belt 
  • Scout socks (any official red top) 
  • Proper & comfortable closed-toe shoes 
  • Red nylon water-repellent jacket (optional) 
  • Class "B" Field (Activities) Uniform at all other times:
    Jamboree ball cap or bucket hat
    Troop or Jambo t-shirt (designated daily) (troop t-shirts purchased with your dues - you must order 2 official Jamboree t-shirts)
    Scout shorts only!
    Scout socks only!
    Scout belt
    Proper & comfortable closed-toe shoes

  • Only Scout-related clothing or Scout suitable clothing will be allowed in the camp site! No school logo clothing, no clothing with political statements or anything controversial, no commercial logos, etc. If you have to ask if it's appropriate, then it's probably not.

  • The official uniform must be worn during travel, sightseeing, arena shows, dinner meals, and other formal occasions.

  • Class "A" or Class "B" uniform MUST be worn everytime you leave your camp site.

  • NO EXPLORER OR VENTURING UNIFORMING IS ALLOWED!

Required Personal Camping Equipment
  • 1 carry-on bag (purchased as part of your troop dues) 
  • 1 duffel bag with name (purchased as part of your troop dues) (bring a small lock to prevent casual theft) 
  • 1 day pack, large fanny pack or other means to carry lunch, water bottles, camera, sunscreen, map, poncho, patches, small flashlight, 1st aid stuff, etc. 
  • 2 blankets/sheets or 1 sleeping bag, or combination of both, and a large waterproof bag, like a garbage bag 
  • 1 air mattress 
  • 1 ground cloth (provided by troop) 
  • 1 poncho or other rain gear 
  • extra uniform parts as needed (in addition to parts of official uniform) (e.g., Order of the Arrow) 
  • 5 sets of underwear 
  • 5 pairs of socks 
  • lightweight jacket
  • laundry bag, recommended for use in duffel bag to hold soiled clothing 
  • pajamas or other sleeping attire 
  • 1 pair moccasins, 1 pair rubber-soled shoes, or other shoe for in camp 
  • 1 eating kit containing 1 plate, 1 bowl, 2 forks, 2 spoons, 1 knife, and 1 large cup with handle (other eating utensils will not be provided) (personally identify these items with a permanent marker or engraver) 
  • Scout Guide to the Jamboree
  • 1 swimming suit 
  • glasses or contacts, if you wear them (bring a spare pair!)
  • ID (photo or non-photo) (picture ID required if 18 or older)
  • personal first aid kit
  • 1 toilet kit containing soap in container, comb, hair brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, metal mirror, washcloth, shampoo, deodorant, and chapstick 
  • 1 plastic wash basin 
  • laundry materials (detergent in small plastic bag) 
  • 2 hand towels 
  • 2 bath towels 
  • 1 sewing kit 
  • 1 flashlight (no flame-type lights will be permitted) with spare batteries 
  • 1 Scout knife 
  • 1 Bible, Testament, or prayer book - according to faith
  • 1 canteen or plastic water bottle to carry with you - ESSENTIAL! 
  • 1 insect repellent (20-33% Deet-based pump spray is recommended) 
  • 1 sunscreen
  • Any required medication (must be given to your Scoutmaster before leaving home)


  • All personal items and clothing must be permanently marked!
Optional Personal Equipment
  • watch 
  • notebook, pen, pencil 
  • camera (single-use is good), film 
  • book, cards, etc. for travel
  • drinking cup, collapsible 
  • shaving gear (if needed) 
  • musical instrument 
  • shoelaces, extra pair 
  • ditty bags for small items
  • pillow (small) 
  • patches for trading
  • personal friendship gifts
  • money, traveler's checks (with Scout's name on them), VISA BUXX, etc. (about $10-15 per day is a good amount - bring quarters for machines)
  • telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of those at home
  • pre-addressed, stamped envelopes & postcards
  • handkerchief
  • plastic trash bags to cover uniform & other gear to keep clean and dry
  • business cards to exchange with other Scouts
  • clothes pins
  • clothes line
  • coat hangers for uniform
  • longsleeve shirt
  • camp stool or collapsible chair for in camp
  • calling card, pre-paid phone card, or 1-800 information
  • Boy Scout Handbook 
  • Fieldbook 
  • Each patrol will be issued a small personal radio. No boom-boxes are allowed. NO PERSONAL ELECTRONICS DEVICES ARE ALLOWED! 
  • battery operated lantern (spare battery and bulb)
