Telluride has to be one of our favorite places to visit on a weekend. Year-round, it is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado and we felt lucky to live so close by while we did.
Telluride is a ski resort town that had its early beginnings as a mining town and has a special eclectic charm of its own. Its pristine surroundings and isolated location attract the wealthy, famous, and lovers of the outdoors. Telluride is also a favorite of the average outdoorsman for skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities. Amongst the art galleries and fashion boutiques, you will find outfitters' shops for hiking and climbing gear.

If you want to visit the Telluride area, don't wait until winter. There are lots of great summer outdoor activities to indulge in, such as mountain biking, hot air ballooning, horseback riding, rafting, and of course, hiking. If you happen to live near by, it is a great place to take off to for a day trip. Check out some of the links below for more information on activities in the San Juan Mountains near Telluride.
Each autumn we visit Telluride for a day and bring along our cameras. As in much of Colorado, the aspen in the fall is breathtakingly beautiful. When the breeze blows through the leaves, it looks like ripples of gold on the slopes. One of the easiest ways to get some incredible views is to ride a gondola from Telluride up to Mountain Village. The gondola rides are free. If it's cold, the operators will let you use a complimentary blanket to huddle under in the gondola. We take our children along with us and they love the gondola rides.
