Allan "Jamie" Jameson
Jamie |
Enchanted Angel |
Mystique Angel |
Jamie was born February 8, 1949 in Waldorf, Maryland. He has lived in New Mexico since 1971 and currently resides in the town of Los Lunas with his wife and the other half of the Jameson flying team, Debra. He works for Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM), the local gas and electric utility as a Working Forman in the Line Department. Cutting those foolish balloon pilots out of the power lines during the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta was something that he took a lot of pleasure in. |
In 1993 during the construction of the Intel computer chip manufacturing plant in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Jamie met and became good friends with Jim Hill, pilot of Scarlet Angel, who kept trying to get the Jamesons to come out and experience ballooning with them. (Yeah, Right!) During the 1994 St. Patrick's Day Rallye in Los Lunas, early Sunday morning, Jamie and Debra had absolutely nothing else going on that day, the launch field was only a block away, so they decided to go out and watch Jimmy fly and help, if needed. Mr. Jameson got his first balloon ride that morning in Scarlet Angel and was HOOKED. |
After almost a year of crewing for Scarlet Angel, and working his way up to Assistant Crew Chief, it was time to take the big step - Pilot. Jim Hill found Jamie a 65K Adams parachute top balloon system that Doug Gobin had for sale in Attelboro, Massachusetts in February 1995. There is nothing more exciting than a dream come true! Jamie said, "I've always wanted to fly, and Enchanted Angel was the materialization of that dream." Gay Jensen, a very experienced and highly competent commercial pilot was commissioned as instructor. If you read this Gay, Jamie says "HI MOM". Seven intense months later a pilot was born. |
Late in the Summer of 1995, Jamie was notified that Scott Ricketts was looking for a buyer for a rebuilt Adams 83k pop-top envelope. If you know anything about the Adams Family at all, it is that they all want a pop-top balloon. Of course Mr. J. bought her and named her Mystique Angel. Now, Mrs. J. was ready to start her pilot training and will need HER OWN BALLOON, OF COURSE!, however a mathematics problem rears it's ugly head. There are only 1 1/2 balloons. (See Debra's page for the rest of the story.) |
Jamie flies primarily in New Mexico and is currently President of the Valencia Flying and Retrieval Society, which hosts the Annual St. Patrick's Day Rallye. By the end of 1997, he hopes to achieve his Commercial Pilots Certification. |
His Best Moment occurred one morning when he called one of the phone numbers in the Albuquerque area that pilots call for current wind conditions. The number is 891-1733. The first call was met with a busy signal. A few minutes later, Jamie hit the redial button on the phone, but somehow the phone did not pick up the first digit. Now, what do you have and what does one do when you dial a wrong number? Right, hang up. We all know that 911 is very good at calling back and of course, the operator didn't buy the story. Would you? Two units were promptly dispatched to investigate. Fortunately he was able to convince the officers that it was a mistake. Lucky for Mr. Jameson because this happened again on two separate occasions!! |
