Marlin was born in Odessa Texas on April 9, 1952. He is a retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant serving for 23 years and has been around the world. When asked where he has lived, his response was "Too many places to count." He is a graduate of Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas and National University at San Diego, California. Marlin came to New Mexico to work for the giant chipmaker Intel. For four years, he worked in Intel's IT server operations shop. He is a computer guru who has built many computers from components and installs networks and network components in homes and small businesses. |
Marlin started crewing for Bob Woodall shortly after he arrived in the Albuquerque area. He crewed for about two years for Bob Woodall and then about a year for Mark Hufford. The sport got into his blood and when Steve Colbert decided to sell Midnight Angel, he jumped at the chance. On December 1st of 1999, Marlin won his pilot's wings under the tutelage of Bob Woodall and flew his first rally as a full-fledged pilot in the Red Rock Rally, Gallup, New Mexico December 3rd through the 5th. 1999. |
Marlin and his wife Shelli are creating their own family crew with three children and one on the way. The kids are learning all about ballooning and love to go flying with Marlin. |
Marlin has worked as a volunteer readying the field for the Kodak Albuquerque international Balloon Fiesta. He is a member of Quad A (Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association) Balloon Club. |
