The curse took on new meaning when a friend drowned about a mile and a half south of Factor Island in the early fifties Living near the river and the ocean, I never learned to swim until in my twenties in a YWCA pool. Now middle aged, I still hope to swim in the Saco in the near future. My younger son enjoys rafting and canoeing and has advan ed ratings in both and mentors others. Maybe he would enjoy the Saco and I could come along for a dip in a nice placid area. Thank you for this lovely site. I take it you live on or near the Saco River. I visit this river once or twice a year in June and or July for a weekend to camp and canoe. Is it always packed with people all summer long? My concern is with so many people, the river, and the few good camp sites along the river get trashed. Is this true or are people for the most part pretty good about respecting the area? There always seems to be one person, or group to ruin a good thing. My intent is to come back as much as possible. It has become my favo ite place to canoe!
