Wednesday Night Race May 20, 1998

Tonight we were just slow. The propeller wasn't set, the bottom was a little dirty, and we were out of the groove. We finished an embarrassing second to last. We resolved to get out on the weekend and tune the rig, and work out our speed problems.

You know it is bad when the slowest boat in the fleet has significantly more speed than you. This boat did have new sails up, but that isn't everything. The boat with the newest set finished behind us.

Our next job is to catch the boat that is in third. We are only one place back. A few good finishes will bring our standing up to third. Second is pretty much mathmatically impossible.

It is races such as these when you do nothing really wrong, and nothing really right that frustrate me the most. I don't mind not doing well if I can learn from it. Well, in the beginning I am mad at myself, but I usually work through it quickly. But not finding a lesson leaves me unsettled.
