Dangerous Vegetarians!

Despite their impressive size, moose are vegetarians, feasting on willows and water lilies. In the winter, they survive on bark, buds from trees and needles from evergreen trees. Their winter diet is low in sodium, which is why they gather near the edges of the highway in spring: to eat the road salt used to melt ice on the road surface. Because of their large mass and dark colour, moose are both dangerous to run into and sometimes hard to see.

Most of the year, moose don't have to worry much about wolves. Once the snow gets very deep, the moose tend to gather together in low-lying areas. Even then, unlike human hunters, the wolves tend to pick the smaller and weaker members of the group.

Moose were introduced into Newfoundland where they have no natural predators. As a result, the highest population densities of moose in the world can be found in parts of Newfoundland. Hunting moose has become an important part of the local culture there.

{Moose Tracks}

Moose tracks look a lot like deer tracks only twice as big in every direction. A moose is essentially Bambi on steroids!
