Hanging on to a Hard Place
Rocky coastlines are found
Many animals and plants which live in this habitat attach
themselves solidly to rocks, from the seaweed and molluscs
exposed to the waves to the trees blown into twisted shapes
by the coastal winds. Some sea birds nest on coastal cliffs.
Rocky shores can also protect their inhabitants because
they aren't as accessible as other coastal areas.
Over time, the action of wind and water turns rocky coasts
into fine particles, which might become part of a
sandy beach.
