Kontiki 99

The Bush Hill Court of Honour set the goal to win the raft construction competition at Kontiki 99. In addition it was decided that the Patrol leaders would organise and run the entire event with minimal help from the scouters.

After a planning afternoon two weeks before the event and a planning weekend the 7 days before the event, Bush Hill set out to Camelot - the theme for Kontiki 99. The entire base was constructed by the junior scouts as the PL's only arrived on Friday evening. Thanks to this great start and wonderful team spirit the entire raft was completed and judged before 10h00 - 2 hours before the official launch time.

The Bush Hill raft took the shape of a battering ram (show below) - designed to break down the gates of the rafts that resembled castle's - and that it did. It was highly mobile in the strong winds experienced on Saturday and resulted in the Bush Hill team visiting and completing all the bases.

Our goal of constructing the best raft was achieved and and we came 4th out of the 100 entries in the overall raft competition. We achieved an 8th overall position - making it three top ten finishes in the last three years.
