- ******WEAR YOUR PFD!!!*******
- If your going to try any of the braided or fused
"superlines" do yourself a favor and fill at least
half of your reel with cheap, heavy mono. 30# for
baitcasters and 15# for spinning. Lay it on as
tightly and evenly as you can. Then finish filling
your reel with the "superline". This will save you a
few dollars better spent elsewhere (new lure maybe?).
You'll also get better performance from your line.
- Be a line watcher!
- Change the rear treble hook on all your topwater
baits to the next largest size. I prefer the
Excaliber's but there are many other quality trebles.
- If you don't already know how to tie a palomar
knot, learn it. It's as strong of a knot as you will
find, easy to tie and is the ONLY knot to use for
"superlines".
- Use a snap on your topwater or crankbait rod(s). This will give your lures better action and will allow you to change baits quickly. DO NOT use a snap/swivel the extra weight will kill the action of the lure.
- When using spinning gear, get in the habit of closing the bail manually then give a quick tug on your line to remove any loose wraps. This will make using a spinning reel more enjoyable as you will get no pull-offs and less line twist.
