
William Nesbit 1789-1863 Veteran of War of 1812 Widened an Indian trail in 1813, then supervised the building of a
military road from Fort Daniel to a shallow ford on the Chattahoochee
River. This is now Peachtree Road.
About 1815, meeting at the Wynn House at Hog Mountain, he and others began
the creation of Gwinnett County and was appointed first sheriff and was
elected the second and fourth terms. As state legislator, he represented
Gwinnett County, at Milledgeville, from 1829 to 1837. On this site was
located his plantation of 650 acres.
