Quiet Sunday in Hong Kong

April 22 Sunday

Sunday morning, I met my friend Bede and we went to North Point Alliance Church for worship. They have an English speaking service because some of the families moved to Hong Kong from the USA so their kids are more comfortable in English. After service, we went for lunch and met up with two other friends.

For the afternoon, the four of us wandered around Causeway Bay near Times Square. Times Square is where Hong Kongers celebrate the arrival of the new year just like folks do in New York! Starbucks Coffee has arrived in Asia. Their competitor is Pacific Coffee. In the Pacific Coffee stores, they have computers offering free internet access. If there are people waiting to use it, 15 minutes is the limit. Below is a street level shot of a common sight in HK... taxis!

For dinner, I met up with relatives and at the restaurant there was a demonstration of noodle pulling.

For special occasions, Peking duck is sometimes ordered.

Here is a family photo on this night before our trip to Beijing.

IMPRESSIONS:

Peking duck is a popular dish especially for special occasions. It is a bit expensive but I've had the pleasure of having it a few times in Los Angeles. I have to say the Peking duck in Los Angeles and Hong Kong are comparable. As you might guess, when we went to Beijing, we would have it in one of our dinners. And guess what? I have to say LA and HK's Peking duck was better than the one in Beijing! I dunno, it just seemed a little bland in Beijing. Who would have thought?
