IN FRIENDSHIP'S LIGHT
For being a special friend,
who knows just when to call...
When the day has been most trying,
And dark clouds enter in,
It's then, you appear like a rainbow,
Causing a big, warm grin! :)
I appreciate your friendship,
More than you could ever know.
For without our friends, life truly,
Would be a LONG and dusty road!
Here friend,
let me shake off all the dust.
Pay no attention to the
angry clashing clouds
or the piercing bolts of uncaring words
which often greet us
in a stormy way.
Look up ahead
the sunshine wedges through
with torching colors
splashing in our view!
Sweet friend, alone we never are
as our dusty hands hold tight
although the sun seems far
we walk in friendship's light!

and the second stanza by
Ginny Poli.)

Just A Grin!
circumstantial chains
rattle and toll
delightfully
in links of fun
hear them
echo
childlike
giggling
with happiness
in my head
to spin!
your eyes
rain with laughter
on my Sunday
perhaps brown or green
smiles that tickle
softly at first
then with lusty abandon
uncovers
my grin!

Cynthia's Song
"And she beats me to bed too!"
innocence lashing each eye
as a sleepy, regal smile
plays a hidden pillowed sigh
wearing elegance
to bed
unbuttoned
to dignify
flirty nightgowns of giggles
adorn her staircased footprints
spiraling upwards, she says
"sweet dreams dear friend"
was her cry
merrily skipping along
humming
a youth's lullaby!

Best Friends
As long as I can remember, I've always had a friend
Someone special and dear that I could depend
We had matching outfits clear down to our toes
Our hair was all done up in ribbons and bows
We laughed so hard we would have to cry
We ate to much candy and thought we would die
We walked to the bus stop together each day
We held each other's hands when we went to play
When one of us stumbled and fell onto the ground
You would think the other one felt it, the way we would sound
We had our own language that we often used
To leave people wondering and always confused
Neither one of us lonely as the years did go by
We still are the best of friends, you and I
We both wanted marriage, to start a life of our own
With happiness, love and a wonderful home
We both we married on the same day
Our husbands were first cousins and a family we would stay
So now, not only are we best friends
But, also cousins right down to the end
But better yet this, you will always be
The worlds best twin and special to me

Friends
Friends are like banners or badges in that we are very proud of
each and every one
Each one in need, sometimes they come
They do not want you to fix it
They just want some one to listen
To tell then everything is going to work out just fine
All it takes is a little time
Friends are there when you need cheer and to calm your fears
They settle you down
And turn your frown upside down
They hold your hand and wipe away the tears
Sometimes all it takes is three little words
"I'm here always"
Even in your darkest days
They will reach out to comfort you
And when you are happy again they will laugh and smile with you
True friends are not measured by number
They are measured by heart
How big?
Mine have huge ones
How loving?
Oh to infinity and beyond
How caring?
More than words can say
How devoted?
As I am to them
My friends all have special places in my heart
From them I'll not depart

Friends

A friend is fun to be with,
When your spirits are quite low,
And she's the one you want to help,
Through all her cares and woes,
She makes you feel important,
Gives you confidence you lack,
And when the pressures get too bad,
She brings enjoyment back.
With her there are no phony fronts,
You can just be yourself,
Have fun while doing nothing much,
Put masks up on the shelf.
A ride to town, a drink or lunch,
Becomes a great adventure,
Pretend that you are someone else,
If that brings you both pleasure,
Side step your duties for the day,
And do some innocent flirting,
Cause you both know that you are safe,
For fantasies aren't hurting.
She doesn't make you feel as though,
Your whole life's an exam,
A friend is one who knows your faults,
And doesn't give a damn.

Special People
Copyright © Summer's Day - May 29, 1999
We meet a lot of people throughout our lives
Precious people who come to mean so much
Who without we could not survive
Each has given of the inner treasures that lie
Deep within the core
Stored beyond the eye
Special person you hold the key
To every sense I feel
You unlock my soul and join in stride
Any mystery still concealed
We talk and share the same ideals
Though we're not the same
We remain close forever each us can claim
There is no other difference
We have the same spirit within us all
Together we will venture and tare down each wall
We seem closer than ever because we have cared so much
We have joined our hands in friendship
Based upon common trust
Dear friends I love you so
There could be no better choice
Than to tell you I will encourage you when you need me the most
I have always been told true friends are a rarity
But I have found it isn't so
We come across many where judgment lets us know
We judge by how we are treated
We let our wisdom be our guide
We listen to our heart
For it never lies
Our heart lights the way
It is our welcome sign
For all who pass through
And become special in our lifetime
I let each of you inside and give an equal chance
I look for honesty from open hearts
I never make demands
I do expect the same respect that you would want from me
It is given freely and in written word you’ll see
I am loyal to my oath
If I find I can place my trust
In one worthy of it
In the ones I seek so much
I give each a place to be loyal and caring
Where we can abide whatever the standards might be
As time allows us to take and give of friendship
Whenever we feel the need
Never to change my feeling
Whether in happiness or pain
You are always by my side
Where loneliness need not remain
I’ll be here to listen
To open up again
For all the dear and precious people
You meet during your plight
The ones who see you through
Remain the most important in your life
If you ever feel like running wanting just to hide
If you feel lost and alone let each voice be your guide
Reach out your trembling hand though the hour might be dark
With your pen in hand tell what is in your heart
Sharing what is deep inside helps you to see clear
Bringing us closer for there are times we each need someone near
We might have the same feelings
I’m certain we that we do
In this small world that we live in
It is possible that we are you
We are treasures for the finding
If we look deep enough
We all search for the same things
A true friend to confide and in which to place our trust
The one you can tell anything
Knowing you need not fear
You will be judged and betrayed
Having your heart on a spear
Where others taunt and throw rocks
The hypocrite who leers
It goes to show we are alike
Mistakes are lessons learned
It takes a gentle soul to look past
Not to believe all they have heard
It takes compassion to see beyond
The reasons of what led a lost soul there
We gain so much from mistakes
It is who we have become
All that was ever wanted was respect and a little love
I feel my heart was promised
To the dear friends I have the pleasure to meet
The friends I have yet to know
The friends I have yet to greet
A friend waiting to be found
Someone just wanting to share
In the simple things in life and even the greater things out there
Though experiences may be different the feelings left behind
Are so often someone else’s that can bridge the span of time
It takes a moment to remind someone
About the important elements of life
A friend has the capability to make that gesture
Rekindling that spice
I have found a friend along the way
With many others on this same path
It’s here we’re all travelers
In need for things that last
No matter where you’re bound
No matter where you’ve been
Take the time to know us
Take the time you need
Just don’t give up on anyone
We are much, too much, too dear
We all deserve the love and friendship
That is much, too much too rare
I will always keep a part of you to treasure every day
I will always remember what you might have said that has helped me in some way
I will always seek your company for there are important things to say
I will always look to your advice and comments that guide me in my stay
I will always feel the *smiles* and *hugs* that are typed across the page

He's an irritable son of a gun.
If you stand next to him,
You might tremble with the fear
That he's about to
Chew your head off.
It's hard to believe
He's got a heart of gold,
Because his heart got buried
And what you see at first
Is the junkyard
Of his hurts and failures
Manifesting as his grumpiness.
But if you get a shovel
And do some excavating,
You will find his heart of gold
And he will become
Your best friend.

Caring, sharing, always there
Precious gift which is so rare.
Understanding how I feel
Strong support like toughest steel.
Sympathizing when there's need
Will sometimes follow, sometimes lead,
Joined for ever like a ring
In joyful love that true friends bring.
Accepting that I too care,
Liking, loving things we share.
Never just a 'sometimes' friend
Constant, true until life's end.
Thank you.

Life Restored

Come, bring me your
shadowed, shattered dreams.
Seek my warmth
and come away restored.
Fill Your Cup
© Sharon Rothenfluch Cooper
Bring your cup
of apprehension, distress,
resentment and violence.
Empty it here
filling your vessel
with the drawing warmth
of release.
Let my flame brighten
your fragmented spirit.

A true friend
is one who holds our hand
in the bad times.
Our Space
© Sharon Rothenfluch Cooper
Open beams give spacious
view and a rustic atmosphere.
Place to put some treasured things,
clutter confined, out of the way.
Eyes lift upwards to the glint,
glasswork sparkles, flashes, gleams.
Tall windows stand, side by side,
giving view of woods and lake.
We need to come, enjoy our friends,
companionship, a joy you see.
all eight of us, close friends to years,
fit together like a glove.
Dream House

Gramps and I spent many hours
in the attic on wet days.
We made and mended furniture
for my dollhouse on display.
It was large, had many rooms,
Victorian style, this was my taste.
Glue, hammer, saw, we needed all
to renovate, design, replace.
He sat there on a ladderback,
me in my childhood rocking chair.
Hours were spent, memories made,
grandpa and me, the best of friends.
