"Brighten up, Eliza," Jack said, sitting in front of her at a table in the common room. "It's just one more week of detention. And it can't be that bad. He *is* your father, afterall. And Dad usually bites my head off when I come home complaining about Granddad. So, he can’t be as bad as you make it seem."
"Which means he has no qualms about making me do stuff he wouldn't make other people do normally," she said, looking up from a particularly mean Arthimancy paper. "I'll admit that sometimes it's not that bad. Sometimes we just sit down and he teaches me chess or he'll let me help him with making stores of potions for Madam Pomfrey. Other times, it's just horrible."
"What does your mum say about it?" Jacob asked, taking the seat next to Jack.
"She thinks that it's wonderful that we're spending quality time together. And she thinks that I got what I deserve. She also said something about five years old and knees, but I wasn't paying that much attention." Her two friends laughed and Eliza glared. "Unless you're up to helping me with this Arithmancy paper, scram. Daddy said that I couldn't talk to people while I was in the common room until the month was up."
"That sucks," Jack said before getting up and going to sit with Thomas and Jerry. The twins were scaring their younger cousins with horror stories of ‘Granddad Snape’ and what he made people do in detention. Bethany, Ana, and Christian had detention with Severus that night along with Eliza. "Don't listen to them," Jack interrupted the twins. "They are full of baloney. You three should go ask Eliza... she's been having detention with him since term began."
"But he's her father," Bethany protested. "He'd naturally go easier on her."
"No he doesn't," Jerry said. "I had detention with her once..man, she had the most drudgiest stuff to do. I think, if anything, he's severely pissed off he gave his daughter detention for a month."
"Yeah, who would want to be cooped up with her all evening, every evening?" Jacob asked, biting the head off a chocolate frog.
"Obviously my father does," Eliza said from behind the group. "Now, are you three coming or not? Daddy doesn't like waiting."
"Then why are you still here?" Jack asked, pointing to a clock. "You're already an hour late."
"Just because I have to respect him and all doesn't mean I'm going to actually be on time! Anyway, let's go. If we go together, there's less of a chance of us getting yelled at horribly bad." Eliza walked to the portrait hole and pushed it open, and let the three Weasley first years climb out. "See ya in six hours!" she called before climbing out the portrait hole, herself.
In the dungeons, Snape was furiously pacing in front of his desk, where Hermione was sitting. "I don't get it," he said, running his hands through his hair. "All she ever does is undermine me. You'd think that after living with me all her life, she'd understand authority, but obviously not."
"Severus, calm down," Hermione said, reaching for the eagle quill he was preparing to snap, "She's just testing her boundaries. End her punishment tonight. She's just going to get into trouble again and I'll handle it. Maybe I can do something about this behaviour that you can't."
"I doubt it," Eliza said, walking into the room. "I think I'm permanently stuck this way!" she said, cheekily.
"Eliza, get to your common room. Your punishment, as of this moment, is done with," Snape said, turning to face her. After Eliza left and Severus set the first years to some menial task, he looked at Hermione. "Are you sure that girl isn't a Slytherin?" he asked with doubt in his voice.
"Pretty positive. Besides, you're the only one she has issues with. I asked all the other teachers and they say she's the equivalent of an angel....most of the time."
"Are you sure that we can't be seen?" Jacob asked in a hushed voice.
"Positive. The twins say that it's the greatest joint present Dad's ever given them," Jack replied, tapping his wand against a blank piece of parchment. "And this is the greatest piece of parchment ever."
"Why?" Eliza asked. Soon, her question was answered as the parchment was crawling with scarlet lines. "Oh..It's a map!"
"Say it a little louder, Eliza. I don't think they heard you in the Astronomy Tower!" Jack said, irritated. He was too busy glaring daggers at Eliza to see where he was walking. Turns out, he was walking straight towards Hermione. Eliza looked up just in time to collide with her mother's back. "Oompf!" Jack grunted, falling on his bum.
"Way to go, Jack," Jacob said in a harsh whisper.
"Ssshh...maybe she won't hear us," Eliza whispered. She stood up, pulling the guys up with her.
"No such luck, Eliza. I can hear you three. Now, follow me," Hermione said, frowning at where she was certain the trio was. When they took off the cloak, Hermione found she was right. She turned on her heel and walked in the direction of her office. Eliza, Jack, and Jacob followed at a distance.
In Hermione's office, she gestured for the three to take a seat and threw some powder into the roaring fire. "Harry Snape!" she called into it, before sitting in a chair near the fire. Harry's head spun into view and he glared at her. "Don't glare at me," she said, holding her hands up. "I'm not the one who gave my son the Marauder's Map or the Invisibility Cloak."
Harry took that moment to look further into Hermione's office. "Jack! What did I tell you before going to school about that map?"
"Uhm, I seem to have forgotten," Jack said with a grin that could rival Fred and George Weasley.
"Bloody likely.. Look Hermione, I gave him the map. I gave the twins the cloak, if you must know. So, you can't pin this one on my bad parenting. Look, I've got to go. Andie's got the stomach flu and Gin's been sick all week. Just...give them detention and take off points. Pull a Snape, you ARE a Snape now, anyway." With that, Harry's head disappeared out the fire and Hermione turned back to her daughter, grandson, and adopted nephew.
"Here's the deal. You three were caught out of bed. That is currently grounds for expulsion, you know. Forty points from Gryffindor-"
"MUM!"
"-each," Hermione finished. "And you lot have detention for the next three weeks, every night." Eliza groaned and smapped her head. "You should have thought about the consequences ahead of time. Now, you two should get back to Gryffindor Tower," Hermione said, nodding at Jack and Jacob. "I need to talk to Eliza."
Jack and Jacob hurriedly left, but not as hurried enough not to hum the death toll.
