Should anyone ask,
“What do you do in life?”
I would answer,
“I am a lender”
The person might reply,
“You lend people money?”
“I lend my voice to people who can’t talk,”
I would reply back.
“Is it hard?” she might continue.
“Everything is,” I would say.
She might inquire, “Does it pay well?”
I’ll answer “I hardly get paid.”
“So it’s not lucrative!” she’ll declare.
I would open my mouth to reply,
but she would already has turned her back on me.
* The World According to Garp is a masterpiece by John Irving. The World According to Me isn’t in anyway related to it; it simply was my inspiration for the title.
